Maldives Media Council (MMC) is an independent legal entity with a mission to preserve, promote and maintain the freedom of press, within the legal frame work of Maldives and encourage the growth of a sense of responsibility, public service, ethics and a high standard of professionalism among all those engaged in the profession of Journalism.
MMC comprises of 15 members; 8 representing media organizations and 7 representing the general public. This Saturday, internal elections were held yet again as the tenures of 13 incumbent officials is set to expire of 11th of December.
This time around, a total of 29 candidates competed for the membership. This is 14 persons from media organizations and 15 persons from the general public. A total of 199 medias registered to vote in the elections of which 187 medias participated later on. Following are the details of the newly elected members;
