On Wednesday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed Ali Faiz as the new High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The High Commissioner’s letter of credence was presented yesterday by the President at a special ceremony held at the President’s Office.
Prior to his appointment, Ali Faiz served as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since November 2022. He has also served as a member of the Police Board since April 2021 and was a member of the People's Special Majilis for the Baa Atoll constituency.
Moreover, he even took on the role of Chief of Protocol during his time at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Additionally, Ali Faiz has previously held numerous executive positions in both the public and private sectors. The Maldives and Sri Lanka officially established diplomatic relations in 1965, the year Maldives attained independence as a British protectorate.
