MTCC Inaugurates Alifushi Airport Terminal Development Project

On Friday, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) inaugurated the development of the airport terminal on Alifushi island in Raa Atoll. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 6th January 2023 with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC, Adam Azim and Parliament member of the region, Mohamed Rasheed Hussain. The Alifushi island council president also participated in the inaugural ceremony.

MTCC was initially awarded the contract for the development of Alifushi Airport in September 2021. In the beginning phase, MTCC first reclaimed land for the project with 50 hectares of land dedicated to the airport development. The project is progressing smoothly at the site with the construction of the fire building and fire pond currently ongoing.

The scope of the project features numerous works including land reclamation operations, the establishment of a 2871m revetment, 480m groyne and the development of essential airport facilities such as a runway, apron, taxiway and terminal building. Moreover, a fire building and firefighting equipment will also be installed as part of the project and coastal protection works will be carried out as well.  MTCC values the project at USD 30 million and plans to fully complete the project in 2 years.
