Government Seeks Members For Advisory Committees On Fisheries Management

The Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources & Agriculture has opened applications for membership to formulate advisory committees on Fisheries Management. Three advisory committees are planned to be incepted under the initiative one on tuna fisheries, grouper fisheries and marlin fishing.

This is the second time the Fisheries ministry reopened applications for membership as no names were submitted in the previous circle. Interested candidates are asked to submit their application latest by 12:00 hours on 19th January 2023. The works of the advisory committee members include formulating an annual management plan and submitting it to the ministry and advising the ministry on regional and international standards and guidelines on fishing and exporting.

Each advisory committee will constitute various individuals involved in different lines of work related to the attributed fisheries. For the tuna fisheries committee, the membership will be given to 3 fishermen specialized in tuna fishing and representatives from fish exporters, local fish sellers and fisheries organizations. As for the grouper fisheries committee, it will also include 3 representatives in grouper fisheries, 2 members of grouper exports and 2 local grouper sellers. The marlin fishing committee comprise 5 members: 3 fishermen carrying out marlin fishing, 2 representatives of marlin processing companies and an individual from a pertinent organization.
