MTCC Awarded Harbour Development Projects Of Two More Islands

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted with the harbour development projects of Lhohi island and Velidhoo island in Noonu Atoll. The contract agreement was signed last Thursday between the Managing Director of MTCC, Shifaau Ali and the Director General of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure, Fathimath Shaana Farooq.

The scope of the N. Velidhoo harbour development project includes dredging operations of a 67,020 cbm area, harbour basin dredging works, channel dredging operations of a 2414 cbm area, a 473m revetment, construction of a 167m quay wall and 12m breakwater. Additionally, the project also features the establishment of a concrete jetty ramp as well as harbour pavement works of a 2433 sqm area. The project will be completed with harbour lights and navigational aids and is set to be concluded within 500 days of the date of the award. The project is valued at MVR 47.21 million.

On the other hand, the harbour development project of N.Lhohi consists of many necessary works too. This includes dredging operations of 66,701.94 cbm area, channel dredging operations of 2205 cbm area, and construction of a 321.7m breakwater and 366m quay wall. Moreover, the project also extends to the establishment of a 95m revetment and 50m groyne and features a concrete jetty and ramp among the works. Harbour pavement works, harbour lights and navigational aids are also designed as part of the project. The project is set to be finished within 640 days from the date of the contract and is valued at MVR 64.87 million.

The development of the harbours will brings great ease to the residents of both islands in many ways. From supporting fisheries to local tourism and providing easy connectivity to resort workers, the project is deemed to be very beneficial for the progress of both islands.
