Dubbed as the “oscars” of the power industry, the Asian Power Awards, is annually held to recognize ground-breaking projects and trailblazing initiatives in the power sector in Asia. This year, the event was held digitally from 27th October to 3rd November 2020. One local company shone bright at the awards this year; Fenaka Corporation Limited (Fenaka).
Fenaka Corporation Limited is a state-owned utility company mandated by the law to provide electricity, water and sewerage to the islander communities of Maldives. They successfully secured four wins at the Asian Power Awards 2020. Their details are as follows;
· Power Plant Upgrade of the Year in Maldives for the Laamu Atoll Central Power Station by Fenaka
· Power Utility of the Year in Maldives
· Solar Power Project of the Year in Maldives for the Madaveli/Hoadehdhoo project by Fenaka
· CEO of the year (from all countries) to Mr. Ahmed Saeed Mohamed of Fenaka
Commenting on the win, Fenaka states that they attribute it to the major operational changes brought to the company within the past two years for the purpose of improving the quality of their services and efficiency as company,
Just a few days ago, the company was also celebrating their greatest financial success since inception; the generation of a profit of MVR 35 million for the year 2019, the very first time they have been able to do so after payment of taxes.
