Gdh. Faresmathoda Airport Development Project Heads Towards Completion

The Faremaathoda Airport development project contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is nearing completion with over 85% of the project progressing so far. At the moment, the construction of the runway and taxiway is ongoing alongside apron construction works with an overall 90% of the work completed. MTCC has previously carried out the Gdh. Faresmathoda Airport causeway project earlier in the year as well.

The Gdh. Faresmathoda Airport is a visionary airport in the South of Maldives and therefore, includes several project features. The scope of the project extends to subbase and subgrade works for the runway, taxiway and apron and the construction of a terminal building. A fire pad, fire road and fire building are also included in the project. The airport design depicts the image of thatched huts from a distance, paying homage to the Maldivian culture.

The development of the airport will pave way for easy transportation in the atoll and will help promote tourism in the region as travel becomes more accessible. Through this the atoll can further increase efforts to develop local tourism on the island as well as conduct economic activities, bringing prosperity to the island.
