BML To Donate 33 Motorized Wheelchairs To Support People With Mobility Impairments

Bank of Maldives (BML) is supporting persons with mobility impairments by facilitating the donation of 33 additional motorized wheelchairs all across the Maldives. With this donation, the CSR program which was incepted in 2017, will see the successful delivery of 200 motorized wheelchairs to locations in different parts of the country. Through this, BML is assisting in enhancing the quality of life of persons with disabilities.

Speaking on the occasion, CEO of BML, Karl Stumke remarked “Supporting vulnerable communities has always been important to the Bank. The wheelchair donation program has been instrumental in improving the lives of so many disabled people and their families.  I would like to express my sincere thanks to our staff for their commitment to delivering the wheelchairs across the nation.”

The bank had remained steadfast in supporting people with disabilities through various programs. Very recently, the Bank has donated educational tools to Special Education Need students in 10 different schools in the Maldives. Moreover, the Bank has partnered up with the Maldives Deaf Association on multiple occasions to conduct special activities such as commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Additionally, earlier in the year, the Bank was providing support to develop the sign language dictionary as part of its strategy to empower and promote the rights of the deaf community in the Maldives. Furthermore, the BML has also been in association with the Maldives Association for Persons with Disabilities to run its accessible transportation program for people with disabilities.
