On Monday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with members of the Island Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of M. Kolhufushi Island during his official visit to the island to commemorate this year’s national Unity Day. The meeting took place at the Secretariat of Kolhufushi Island Council.
At the meeting, President Solih stated that his administration focuses on prioritizing consultations with the community leaders and residents to increase their involvement and find out their viewpoints on developmental plans for the island. The President also noted the warm welcome he and the first lady received upon arriving on the island and expressed his gratitude to the members.
Speaking at the meeting, the council members observed that the island saw the greatest number of development projects during this administration and noted that the government has established all essential services on the island. They also acknowledged that the development of the 100 housing units would address most of the island’s pertinent concerns.
Speaking further, the council members brought to the President’s attention the need for road construction and the necessity of a football ground and community centre. They also highlighted arranging travel to Muli Island via the lagoon. In this regard, the President updated the members on the administration’s developmental plans for Kolhufushi including projects scheduled for next year and efforts to establish tourism in the region. He also stated that the administration’s aim is to expedite the progress of the housing project.
