The President & First Lady Depart To M. Kolhufushi Island To Observe National Unity Day

On Monday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed departed for Kolhufushi Island in Meemu Atoll to attend the ceremonies to observe this year’s National Unity Day. The day is marked in remembrance of the spirit of national unity and solidarity shown by the people of Maldives in the disastrous aftermath of the devastating Indian Ocean Tsunami that struck in 2004.

During his visit to Kolhufushi Island, the President will unveil a monument erected in memory of the lives lost in the catastrophic incident that rocked the nation 18 years ago. Moreover, the President and the First Lady will also attend the official reception held to mark the day this morning. Additionally, they will join hands with the island residents in a show of unity to commemorate the camaraderie displayed by the Maldivians in the 2004 tsunami tragedy.

Furthermore, the President will meet the members of the island council and the Women’s Development Committee before concluding the visit. The President and First Lady are set to arrive back in Male’ later this evening.
