Bank of Maldives Helps Take Exercising to Outdoors at the island of Kurinbee in Haa Dhaalu Atoll

‘Aharenge Bank Community Fund’ introduced by Bank of Maldives Plc. (BML) targets to empower local individuals and NGOs to contribute to their communities by way of sustainable projects. As part of this project, the bank provides funding for proposals presenting ideas of community-based projects surrounding the themes; education. environment, sports and community development. All winning proposals are granted MVR 50,000 to transform their ideas into reality.

One such winning proposal was put forward by Mr. Adam Shazeem along with an NGO, Kurinbee Youth Movement for the establishment of an outdoor gym dedicated for exercising at the island of Kurinbee in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The outdoor gym was built in the area dedicated for sports activities in Kurinbee. It houses a total of 7 machines out of which, 3 of them were installed with support of the community fund. The outdoor gym is open for people of all ages.

Mr. Adam Shazim commented that unavailability of a dedicated space for fitness in the island of Kurinbee has caused difficulties over the years. Hence, the aim of this project as to create an environment and empower the residents to exercise on supporting them to lead a healthy lifestyle in order to reduce the morbidity of common diseases.
