The Minister of State For Foreign Affairs Of Japan Calls On President Solih

On Tuesday, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Japan, His Excellency Takei Shunsuke paid a courtesy call on the President of the Maldives, His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The meeting took place at the President’s Office during the morning hours on Tuesday, 20th December 2022.

During the meeting, the President greeted and warmly welcomed His Excellency Takei Shunsuke to the Maldives and conveyed his best wishes to the Prime Minister of Japan, His Excellency Fumo Kishida. Speaking at the meeting, the President and the State Minister reflected on the longstanding bilateral relations between the Maldives and Japan and observed that this year marks the 55th anniversary of establishing bilateral relations between both countries. The Maldives and Japan first established diplomatic relations in 1967.

President Solih and State Minister Shunsuke also spoke on various other topics of mutual interest during the meeting. This included discussions on enhancing socio-economic cooperation, regional security, people-to-people contact and disaster prevention. They also explored avenues to further strengthen cooperation in waste management and climate change.

In this regard, the President noted Japan’s significant involvement as a developmental partner for the Maldives and expressed his gratitude to the Japanese government for their continued generosity and assistance throughout the years. The meeting concluded with the President and His Excellency Shunsuke expressing their mutual commitment to continue working forward to achieve the common good for both countries.
