Registrations Open For ‘Hour of Code at Women in Tech’

Women in Tech in partnership with Dhiraagu has opened registrations for the ‘Hour of Code at Women in Tech’. Endorsed by the Ministry of Education, the annual event is held by https://code.org/ to commemorate International Computer Science Week which is marked globally during the month of December every year.

This year’s event seeks to outstretch reach to all atolls in the Maldives with more than 2000 students across the country participating simultaneously. The participants will then be sorted into various age categories and facilitators will engage them in different activities targeted to underscore the importance of Computer Science Education. This includes coding and other computer-related ventures.

The main event will take place on 24th December 2022. The ‘Hour of Code at Women in Tech’ will be held with the mentorship and guidance of Dhiraagu, schoolteachers, and members of Women in Tech Maldives, ensuring all participants have a fun time. Interested individuals, schools and institutions can partake in the programme by registering via the link: https://www.womenintechmv.org/hourofcode

Initially incepted by https://code.org/ the programme forms part of a global movement that provides an interesting introduction to computer programming in a 1-hr session. Now held in more than 180 countries and reaching tens of millions of students every year, Women in Tech Maldives as an international partner of Code.org has successfully conducted this programme in the Maldives in the past three years.

Physical sessions have been carried out in Kalafaanu School, Imaduddin School, Hiriya School, B. Goidhoo School, R. Hulhudhuffaaru School and Gn, Fuuvahmulah School in the days leading up to the main event. This programme is an intriguing way to introduce students of all ages to coding and spark an interest in computer science. Laying a strong foundation in Computer Science is essential to succeed in any field of the contemporary world and can help increase the creativity and problem-solving skills of each individual.
