HDC Receives First Telecommunication Infrastructure License In Maldives

On Tuesday, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced that it has been issued the first telecommunication infrastructure in the Maldives by the Communication Authority of the Maldives (CAM). The license was officially handed over by the Chief Executive Officer of CAM, Ilyas Ahmed to the Managing Director of HDC, Ahmed Athif at a special ceremony held at HDC Exhibition Center on Tuesday.

With the license acquirement, HDC can now build telecommunication infrastructure in Hulhumale and issue the infrastructure facilities for service providers. The license will help HDC further strengthen efforts in the Open Access Network and expedite progress toward its Smart City initiative. HDC stated that obtaining the license shows the trust placed by service providers in the network and is a testimony to the quality services provided for the residents via the Open Access Network.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of HDC, Ahmed Athif stated the license will allow HDC to widen its network and introduce technological solutions that will bring convenience to the residents of Hulhumale’. He noted that the solutions already launched by HDC have been well received by the public and that the company will be expanding its services in the near future. 

HDC has successfully established the Open Access Network in the newly urbanized areas of Hulhumale Phase 2 and has commenced Fibre To The Home (FTTH) connections in the settlement. Various service providers have already been utilizing the network to provide telecommunications services for over a year now. By providing internet and television services through a single integrated system, HDC and CAM believe it will bring great ease to the residents and accelerate the speed of services as well.
