On Tuesday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ooredoo Group, Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo and the senior management of the company. The meeting took place as part of the President’s official visit to the State of Qatar, honouring the invitation extended by the Qatari Amir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
During the meeting, the President emphasized the strong relations of trust and goodwill between the Maldives and Qatar and spoke about Ooredoo Maldives, ranked amongst the largest telecommunications companies in the country. In this regard, the President stated the integral part played by the company branch in the Maldives in strengthening technological cooperation in the nation. Moreover, he also noted that it has improved the overall development partnership between both countries as well.
Reflecting on Ooredoo Maldives’ CSR initiatives, the President commended the works done in areas of health, nutrition, women empowerment, and disaster risk reduction. Furthermore, he shed light on the company’s digital literacy programme and accelerator programme which strives to provide a platform for youth innovations. On this note, the President also spoke about Hulhumale’ “Smart City” initiative and its objective of bridging the digital divide in the Maldives.
Before concluding the meeting, both parties reiterated hope for Ooredoo in continuing to facilitate the latest telecommunication services in the Maldives and expanding Ooredoo’s contribution to the Maldivian community in the coming years.
