Fisheries Expo Hosted At Gdh.Faresmaathodaa To Mark National Fishermen’s Day

The Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture has hosted a Fisheries Expo on Faresmaathodaa Island in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The Expo forms part of the celebrations of the National Fishermen’s Day which was commemorated on the island yesterday. The Fisheries Expo was conducted aligning with the administration’s efforts to further develop and promote the fisheries sector of the Maldives. The President himself also partook in the Fishermen’s Day celebrations held on the island yesterday.

Several large companies of the Maldives participated in the Expo and showcased their products. This included Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Horizon Fisheries, Ensis Group, Seagull Group, Pressure Tech Maldives, Big Fish Maldives, Ooredoo Maldives, Nooraajje and the Island Council of Faresmaathodaa. Designated stands were set up at the Expo where each participant exhibited their products and services.

During his visit to the island, the President also toured the expo and inquired about the various products and services on display. In addition to this, he also launched several new products introduced to the market by the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd (MIFCO) and Horizon Fisheries.

Following the tour of the expo, the President proceeded to attend the fish-filleting contest held to mark the day. 12 contenders participated in the competition including 8 women. He also participated in the official ceremony of Fishermen’s Day held later in the evening of yesterday.
