The Chinese Ambassador Pays A Courtesy Call To The Vice President Of Maldives

On Sunday, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Maldives, Her Excellency Wang Lixin paid a courtesy call to the Vice President of the Maldives, His Excellency Faisal Naseem. The meeting took place at the President’s Office during the hours of yesterday.

During the meeting, the Vice President and the Ambassador underscored the long-standing friendship and cooperation between China and the Maldives and discussed avenues to further strengthen relations in areas of mutual interest. This included beneficial collaborations in healthcare, fisheries and climate change among others.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China. Reflecting on this, the Vice President reassured the Ambassador of the nation’s commitment to uphold the One-China Principle. In this note, he highlighted that both countries are pursuing shared goals to maintain peace and security. The Maldives and China first established diplomatic relations on October 14th, 1974.

Moreover, the Vice President and the Ambassador ventured into various other topics at the meeting. The prospect of securing scholarships for Maldivian students were brought into light especially in the education sector and infrastructure development. They also spoke about hosting cultural exchange programmes as well. The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthen cooperation in the coming years.
