NDMA And AFAD Of Türkiye Signs Memorandum of Understanding

On Wednesday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of the Maldives and the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) of Türkiye signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen and improve cooperation and collaboration between the two countries in areas of emergency and disaster management. The agreement was signed on behalf of NDMA by Chief Executive Hisan Hassan and the Governor of AFAD Yunus Sezer represented the AFAD during the signing ceremony.

Under the MoU, cooperation will be driven in four main areas. This includes provision of assistance and cooperation in disaster and emergency response following request, exchange of lessons, experiences and best practices in the fields, visitation trips to exchange the experience of disaster management professionals of both countries and carrying out training programmes for disaster preparedness and response.

The MoU was signed on the sidelines of high-level discussions held at Istanbul, Türkiye focusing on ways to determine and mitigate vulnerabilities to disasters and emergencies. Attendees will be informed on data collection to identify the risk of an incident or crisis during the meeting.
