On Thursday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent felicitations to His Excellency, Esala Ruwan Weerakoon, the Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) on the occasion of the 38th SAARC Charter Day. The President also extended his felicitations to include the Secretariat of SAARC, the various institutions affiliated with the organization and all the people of the 8 countries of South Asia. The SAARC Charter Day is observed on December 8th of every calendar year.
In his publicly broadcasted message, the President remarked that Maldives recognizes the importance of regional collaboration in ensuring peace and stability for all. In this regard, President Solih reaffirmed his commitment to adhering to the principles and values underpinning the SAARC Charter.
In addition to this, the President also underscored the historical threads that have bound the people of South Asia together. He elaborated this by reflecting on the long histories of trade, cultural exchange and goodwill in times of need seen among the people of SAARC countries. Before concluding the message, the President expressed hope of continuing to work together to achieve progress and prosperity to all the people belonging to the SAARC region.
