Tree Top Hospital Performs Complex Surgery To Repair Knee Dislocation

Tree Top Hospital (TTH) has succeeded in performing complex surgery on three knee ligaments via arthroscopy The surgery was performed on a 31-year-old female guest who sustained severe knee injuries involving a motorcycle accident. The accident left her entire knee dislocated with all the ligaments of the knee joint torn apart. The surgery was successfully completed on the guest under the same anesthesia.

The surgery marked the first case all ligament reconstruction and Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) reconstruction in the Maldives. Knee Dislocation is a rare limb-threatening injury with several ligament injuries and multi-directional instability. It occurs when the patella moves or slides out of its position. During the guest’s surgery, all her ligaments were reconstructed by removing ligaments from both of her legs to reconstruct the damaged ones in one surgery.

Speaking on her experience, the guest remarked “This injury has changed my life, and Dr. Faisal and Dr. Kanniraj have both been committed to ensuring my mental and physical well-being throughout the entire process. The surgery was performed by a team of consultants with Dr. Hussian Faisal, Consultant Orthopaedic and Dr. Kanniraj Marimathu, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon leading the surgery. They were joined by Dr. Ahmed Mansour, Consultant Anesthesiologist and Dr. Lenka Cervenova, Consultant Anesthesiologist along with a highly-trained crew of nurses.

On the surgery, Dr. Faisal stated “Ligament reconstruction of the knee joint is a challenging and meticulous work. Her surgery went smoothly and there were no complications. We thank the guest for trusting us and undergoing the treatment with us. She will be requiring well-monitored rehabilitation after the initial recovery. We wish her a speedy recovery”.
