The President Meets Island Council & WDC Members of B. Maalhos

On Sunday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih held a meeting with the Island Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members of Maalhos Island in Baa Atoll. The meeting took place at the President’s Office during the afternoon hours on Sunday. During the meeting, the President and the members discussed various topics related to the island’s development.

At the meeting, the council members expressed their elation over the progress of the water and sewerage network project currently ongoing on the island. They commended the administration’s efforts to uphold its commitment to bring equitable development to all the islands across the nation in the last four years.

Moreover, the council members spoke about the pertinent issues and concerns regarding the development of the island. This included accelerating the progress of the island’s harbour project, providing jurisdiction rights over Hibalhidhoo island and coastal erosion problems faced at the designated boat yard. Furthermore, the representatives also shared with the President the difficulties posed by the lack of space at the Mosque and the need for sports facilities.

In addition to this, the members also requested assistance from the Government to carry out religious awareness programmes. Speaking at the meeting, the WDCs reiterated granting the jurisdiction of the Hibalhidhoo island as well.

In his turn, the President shared with the members the recent developmental plans for the island. Addressing the concerns raised by the council and WDCs, he stated that he would communicate the issues to relevant authorities to find amicable solutions for the problems. Before concluding the meeting, the President reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to consult local councils on matters related to their development.
