The New High Commissioner of Australia Presents His Credentials to the President

Today, the new High Commissioner of Australia to the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Paul Wesley Stephens presented his credentials to the President of the Maldives, His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The ceremony took place at the President’s Office in the morning hours of Monday.

Following the ceremony, the President and the High Commissioner held a meeting where President Solih stated that the Maldives highly regards the strong bilateral relations between Australia and the Maldives. They also spoke about the commitment to establish an Australian High Commission in the Maldives, tangible evidence of the strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, the President and the High Commissioner spoke about different topics of mutual interest, highlighting on higher education, tourism, multilateral cooperation, maritime security, and combating transnational crime. They even noted the potential of pursuing collaborations in various fields such as oceans, environment, and climate change.

Before concluding the meeting, the President and the High Commissioner reaffirmed their commitment to further consolidate bilateral ties between Australia and the Maldives in areas of shared interest. The Maldives and Australia established diplomatic relations in 1974.
