Today, Government of Japan announced that it has officially handed over the two newly-constructed classrooms to Fokaidhoo School in Shaviyani atoll. The official hand over was carried out by Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Her Excellency, Mrs. Takeuchi Midori. The construction of the classrooms was facilitated under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project (GGP) scheme.
The assistance closely aligns with the Grant contract signed between the Embassy of Japan in Maldives and Fokaidhoo School on February 20th, 2022. As per the grand contract, a financial assistance of USD 82,522 was committed to the construction. The aim of this project is to ensure a higher level of quality education for the students at Fokaidhoo school and can also be used as an evacuation facility during natural disasters. The project was implemented with the support from the Ministry of Education.
The GGP scheme founded in 1996 is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) and aims to empower people at grassroots levels. The GGP scheme is implemented in the Maldives by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives. Through this scheme, it has brought tremendous improvements to key areas of the country such as education, health, transportation and energy with the objective of bringing sustainable development to the Maldives.
