Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade of Hungary Pays A Courtesy Call On The President

Yesterday, the Minister of Foreign and Trade of Hungary, His Excellency Péter Szijjártó paid a courtesy call to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The meeting took place at the President’s Office on Wednesday.

At the meeting, the President and Minister discussed enhancing bilateral relations between Hungary and the Maldives and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest and benefit. On this, Mr. Szijjártó outlined the existing ties between the countries and recalled the Memoranda of Understandings signed on Wednesday. He also emphasized that Hungary has incremented the number of scholarships offered to Maldivian students from 15 to 25.

On this note, the President expressed his appreciation for this decision and shared with the Minister the administration’s commitment to provide numerous higher educational opportunities for Maldivian students. In this regard, the President also thanked the Government of Hungary for easing visa facilitation for Maldivians.

During the meeting, the President reflected on the integral role played by Hungary in evacuating Maldivian students in Ukraine at the beginning of the Ukraine-Russian war. On this topic, he expressed his gratitude to the country for its generous support in facilitating the evacuation. In addition to this, President Solih and Mr. Szijjártó also spoke about consolidating cooperation in various fields of mutual interest, particularly on investment opportunities in the Maldives.

The meeting concluded with the President and Minister reassuring their commitment to further solidify cooperation between the two countries in the coming years.
