The Government of Japan Extends Grant Assistance To K.Himmafushi Health Centre

 The Government of Japan has committed a grant of USD 174,230 for the Himmafushi Health Centre in Kaafu Atoll as per the Grand Assistance for Grass Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme. The Grant agreement was signed between the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Her Excellency, Mrs Midori Takeuchi and the Senior Administrator, Health Services of K. Himmafushi Health Centre at a ceremony held yesterday at the Ministry of Health.

The grand assistance of USD 174,230 (equivalent to MVR 2.6 Million) will be utilized for the development of new facilities at the Health Centre. This includes a dedicated emergency room, laboratory, X-ray room and 2 consultation rooms as well. With the establishment of these facilities, the residents of the island can gain access to basic Laboratory and Radiology services within the confines of their island. Upon completion of the upgrade, the Ministry of Health and Himmafushi Council are to cover all pending costs in purchasing the equipment and necessary furniture to commence services.

The GGP scheme founded in 1996 is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) and aims to empower people at grassroots levels. The GGP scheme is implemented in the Maldives by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives. Through this scheme, it has brought tremendous improvements to key areas of the country such as education, health, transportation and energy with the objective of bringing sustainable development to the Maldives.
