MTCC Heads Towards ‘Net-Zero by 2030’ By Introducing Electric Buses

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has unveiled the newest fleet of buses joining its portfolio, this time introducing electric vehicles. The six EV buses joining the RTL network are part of MTCC’s contribution towards realizing the ‘Net-Zero by 2030’ initiative implemented under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration.

The newly unveiled buses are compact in size with a total seating capacity of 11 seats along with wheelchair accessibility. The EV buses will be utilized in the RTL Male’ Bus Services, increasing the capacity of the Male’ fleet to include 24 mini buses.

MTCC stated that the new buses will help to offset the carbon footprint of the company and will greatly add to customer experience as well. Children below the age of 3, school children, elderly above 65 years of age and holders of NSPA cards can travel on the bus without any charge.

The RTL Male’ Bus Service commenced in September of ’22 with 18 buses. With a bus fee of MVR7, three routes were introduced in the capital city, with stops located at prominent government institutions, schools and bustling popular areas around the metropolis.
