The President Meets Members Of Sh. Bilehfahi Island Council & WDC

Yesterday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with members of the Island Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of the island of Bilehfahi in North Miladhunmadulu Atoll. At a meeting held at the President’s Office yesterday, the members shared with the President their vital needs and developmental requirements.

During the meeting, the representatives of the island acknowledged the multitude of developmental projects initiated by the current administration. In this regard, they added that approximately 95% of projects pledged by the President are currently underway on the island.

The council members conveyed to the President community concerns related to the harbour expansion project, highlighting the challenges caused by utilizing the entry channel and docking vessels for repairs. In this way, the members urged the President to expand the scope of the harbour development project to include these concerns. In addition to this, they also brought to the President’s attention the need to establish a youth centre to facilitate sports opportunities for the residents.

Apart from this, other key topics were discussed at the meeting such as the necessity of road construction, coastal protection and accelerating the progress of the airport development project. Moreover, the council members raised concerns about the proposed waste management centre as well.

As for the WDC, they related to the President, issues regarding budget constraints, the lack of office space and the need for a women’s indoor gym. The President assured the WDC that the administration will be taking their considerations into regard.

Addressing the other concerns, the President ascertained that the projects for which the budget was allocated will proceed as planned and informed the representatives that the airport development project is due to begin very soon. He noted that the government will be looking into accommodating the harbour requests as well. The meeting concluded with the council members expressing their gratitude to the President for taking the time to listen to their concerns and agreeing to find beneficial solutions.
