Foreign Minister Departs On Official Visit To The United Kingdom and Northern Ireland

Yesterday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid departed on an official visit to the UK from the 29th of October to the 4th of November 2022. As part of his visit, Minister Shahid will be meeting the new leadership of the UK including the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Honourable James Cleverly. During the meeting, the two will exchange discussions to further enhance the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries.

In addition to this, Minister Shahid is scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict as well as the Minister of State for the Middle East, South Asia and the United Nations, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon. Furthermore, the Minister would be exchanging dialogues with members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords of the UK and paying a visit to the Minister for Asia, Energy, Climate and Environment, Honourable Lord Goldsmith.

Apart from this, Minister Shahid will also be delivering a speech at the Oxford Union Society, speaking on the topic ‘The future of multilateralism’. He is accompanied on his visit by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel and Joint Secretary, Shiuneen Rasheed.
