Government of Japan Provides A Grant To Omadhoo School in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll

Yesterday, the Government of Japan committed a grant of USD 80,731 to Omadhoo School in Omadhoo Island in Alifu Dhaalu atoll. The grant was facilitated under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security project (GGP) scheme. The scope of the project focuses on upgrading the facilities at Omadhoo School.

The Grant contract was signed yesterday at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education. The Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Her Excellency, Mrs. Takeuchi Midori signed as a representative from the Government of Japan while the Principal of Omadhoo School, Mr. Hassan Amir signed on behalf of the school.

As per the Grant contract, the project funds the construction of a classroom and an accessible toilet for students with disabilities. Moreover, the project will also facilitate the enhancement of the school environment, enabling students to learn in a safe and comfortable atmosphere. Additionally, a facility will be established to be used as an emergency evacuation shelter during natural disasters as well. The project will be implemented at the school under the supervision of the Ministry of Education.

The GGP scheme founded in 1996 is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) and aims to empower people at grassroots levels. The GGP scheme is implemented in the Maldives by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives. Through this scheme, it has brought tremendous improvements to key areas of the country such as education, health, transportation and energy with the objective of bringing sustainable development to the Maldives.
