The F. Magoodhoo Airport Development Project Has Been Awarded To MTCC

Yesterday, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announced that they have been awarded the Airport Development Project at Magoodhoo island in Faafu Atoll. The project was contracted by Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. During a ceremony held yesterday, Chief Executive Officer of MTCC, Adam Azim signed the agreement while Director General of Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Fathimath Shana Farooq signed on behalf of the ministry.

Valued at MVR 231,548,936.94, the F. Magoodhoo Airport Development Project is set to be completed within 550 days, which is approximately equivalent to one and half years. The scope of the airport project includes the construction of a 1500m long and 30m wide runway, establishment of a passenger terminal as well as control towers, a fire station, taxiway and apron. Moreover, essential navigational, ground handling and meteorological equipment will also be installed as part of the project.

The development of the F. Magoodhoo airport will bring great ease in transportation for the people of Faafu Atoll as there are no airports located in the atoll as of now. The new airport will also help to increase local tourism in the atoll as well and bring great prosperity to economical activities in the region. Currently, land reclamation is ongoing for the island of F. Magoodhoo by MTCC. The airport is also set to be built on the reclaimed land.
