EU Extends Deadline For Application For EU Grants

During the beginning of October, European Union has facilitated a EUR 2 Million grant to assist in the recovery of the tourism sector of the Maldives. The grant was designed to be provided to MSMEs in the industry with the objective of recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic that has rocked the world in the last two years. Maldives became increasingly vulnerable to the repercussions of the pandemic due to being heavy reliant on the tourism industry, which plummeted with border restrictions implemented around the world.

Headlined as “EU Support for a Resilient Recovery of SME Tourism Industry in the Maldives’ project, the grant will aid MSMEs to become more resilient to abrupt changes in the industry and will promote the diversification of the economy in the Maldives. With a particular emphasis given to local tourism business especially local guesthouses and safari vessels, a total of MVR 14.2 million has been disbursed to 379 eligible recipients so far.

To broaden the scope of reach of the project, EU Grants has announced that they will be extending the application deadline for the project till next year with the last submission to be made by 1400hrs on 28th February 2023.
