First Lady Inaugurates First ‘Psychology Symposium and Exhibition’ in Maldives

Yesterday, First Lady Fazna Ahmed inaugurated the first-ever ‘Psychology Symposium and Exhibition’ in the Maldives, held to commemorate International World Mental Health Day. The Symposium and Exhibition is being conducted by Villa College in their QI Campus from the 10th of October to the 11th of October.

During the inaugural ceremony, the First Lady reminisced about her volunteer work during at the frontlines during the Covid-19 pandemic and shared with the public her experiences and concerns. She noted that the most valuable insight she gained from her time at Hulhumale’ Covid Facility was that physical health cannot exist without mental well-being. In this regard, she stressed the importance of mental health and the need to help one another.

The First Lady also expressed her heartfelt thanks to Villa College for their high regard towards the field of mental health. Moreover, she acknowledged the commendable efforts carried out by the institution to build human resources, mandatory to support such a field.

The first issue of the Villa College Psychology Bulletin was also launched during the ceremony by the First Lady. The bulletin will provide a platform for psychology students from various programmes to publish their articles on pertinent topics.

International World Mental Health Day is marked on 10th October of every year. The theme for this year’s edition of the day was “Making Mental Health and Mental Well-Being for All a Global Priority”.
