Vice President Meets R.Ungoofaaru Council and WDC During His Official Visit To Raa Atoll

Yesterday, Vice President Faisal Naseem met with the members of Raa Ungoofaaru council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) during his official visit to the atoll. The meeting took place at the Secretariat of the Raa Atoll Council. The meeting was also graced by representatives from various public offices and institutions.

During the meeting, the council members shared with the Vice president various concerns and developmental needs of the island. This included recommendations to further expand the scope of the land reclamation project, refurbish the harbour quay wall and provision of embarking and disembarking facilities in the outer seawall of the island. In addition to this, the members also suggested to expand the capacity of classrooms at the local school and increase the number of farm plots available to the residents of Ungoofaaru from neighbouring islands.

At the meeting, the representatives of the public offices and institutions expressed the need to carry out training programs at Ungoofaaru Islamic Centre. They also shared with the Vice President different obstacles hindering the improvement of policing services and other developmental requirements in the island.

The Vice President emphasized on the administration’s commitment to ensure equitable development to all islands especially in improving healthcare services across the country. In this regard, he also brought into light the efforts to provide training to principals and other staff of the educational sector. While addressing the concerns raised at the meeting, the Vice President reassured the representatives that related projects are being conducted at the moment at different levels. He also ascertained the attendees that the administration will work towards providing meaningful solutions for their concerns.

Following the meeting, the Vice President also met with parents of Ungoofaaru School and listened intently to their concerns as well.
