The revolutionary project of the Maldives Floating City has given the public a sneak peek into the development by publishing the first-ever real life picture. Dutch Docklands unveiled a picture of the colourful houses on docks and stated that the first model houses of the project are completed.
Bison Maldives Limited was contracted by Dutch Docklands to develop the first houses of the Maldives Floating City earlier in the year on February 9th. Since then, the construction of the model houses has been completed. The model comprises of a road with houses and trees aligned along both sides of the road. Currently, relocation of the houses to the development area is underway which was previously delayed due to harsh weather.
The floating city is being developed in a lagoon nearby Aarah, Kaafu Atoll. For that purpose, a 200-hectares lagoon was leased to Dutch Docklands. Once completed, this USD 1-billion mega project will feature resorts, dockyards and luxury villas along with other accompanying establishments, all floating on water!
As part of the project, 5000 floating units will be built to cater for a population of 20,000 people. The floating city is designed to reflect the brain coral and is located within 10 minutes from the capital Male’. The government plans to introduce integrated tourism to the Maldives through this project.
