The Foreign Secretary of India Paid A Courtesy Visit To The President

On Sunday, the Foreign Secretary of the Republic of India, His Excellency Vinay Mohan Kwatra paid a courtesy visit to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The visit was made during the morning hours at the President’s Office.

The President welcomed the Foreign Secretary during his first visit to the Maldives and commended him on his outstanding career in diplomatic service. Afterwards, the Foreign Secretary and the President reminisced on the strong bilateral ties between the neighbouring countries, emphasizing on how diplomatic relationships has strengthened in the last few years.

At the meeting, the Foreign Secretary remarked that Maldives’ response to the Covid-19 pandemic have been exemplary and acknowledged the country’s economic recovery by stating how the economy is restored almost to pre-pandemic levels. He further stated that Maldives remains as one of India’s prominent regional partners and that India will continue to support developmental projects in the Maldives.

In this regard, President Solih also appreciated India and said that, time and time India has consistently proven to be the closest friend of the Maldives. The meeting was concluded with the President expressing his gratitude to the Indian government for their unwavering support and assistance to the Maldives.
