UNDP Maldives And HDC Signs Memorandum of Understanding

In a joint effort to expedite Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Maldives and Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last Wednesday. The MoU will see the enhancement of utilization of data by the creation of knowledge ecosystems, accelerating towards achieving SDGs.

The MoU was signed on behalf of UNDP Maldives by Resident Representative Enrico Gaveglia while Managing Director of HDC, Ahmed Athif signed as a representative of the corporation. The signing of the MoU consolidates the long-lasting partnership between the two parties, which has previously collaborated in many areas of support. This latest joint venture will focus on improving the research and development function of HDC and find innovative solutions to develop Hulhumale’ as a sustainable city.

As per the MoU, joint efforts will be focused on two major areas of interest. This includes:

1.Carrying out socioeconomic research and strengthening data management and analytics of HDC in line with SDG 11- Sustainable Cities and Communities.
 
2.Create a learning ecosystem via conveying and facilitating evidence-based policy practice exchanges between HDC and regional urban cities.
 
Speaking on the signing Managing Director of HDC, Ahmed Athif said “We are invested in expanding on the social dimensions of our work. In doing so, we will strong align our strategy with the Government’s plans”.

Resident Representative Enrico Gaveglia of UNDP Maldives remarked “UNDP is pleased to extend our support to HDC’s mission to engineer a social layer in pair with its critical infrastructure and economic mission to create a more resilient, just, equitable and sustainable city and community in Hulhumale”.

The signing of the MoU will deliver the extensive global and regional expertise of UNDP Maldives to develop data-driven, innovative research capabilities.
