Tree Top Hospital Introduces Thalassemia Packages For Guests

On Monday, Tree Top Hospital (TTH) announced that they have launched Thalassemia packages at the hospital for its guests. Thalassemia is a genetic disorder in which the haemoglobin count of the body remains below normal. It is an inherited disorder and is significantly prevalent among the Maldivian society.

Two dedicated Thalassemia packages have been launched by the hospital with guests given the preference to choose based on their requirements. The two featured packages include:

1.Thalassemia Screening Package
Designated for guests wanting an initial diagnosis, this prior screening will identify whether or not the individual carries the gene for sickle cell or more commonly known as Thalassemia gene. Thalassemia screening is advised for couples planning to start a family or going through pregnancy.

2.Thalassemia Check-up Package
Curated for guests already diagnosed with Thalassemia, this package offers the chance to undergo a health checkup before creating a care plan to address the condition. By routinely following a care plan, patients are able to better manage the disorder better.

Apart from the packages mentioned above, Tree Top Hospital also provides Iron Chelation Therapy for guests diagnosed with Thalassemia as an additional service. This therapy removes excess iron from the body after consultation with a medical consultant.

Since the condition is hereditary, it is of utmost importance for all individuals to screen for the condition and determine the severity in the case of diagnosis. Especially as Thalassemia is frequently seen among the community.
