ADB Provides A Grant Of USD 10 Million To The Maldives

On Tuesday, Asian Development Bank (ADB) provided Maldives with a grant of USD 10 Million Dollars. The grant agreement was signed on Tuesday by Minister of Finance, Ibrahim Ameer. The grant was facilitated to fund the storage, delivery, administration and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines in an effort to better improve the process.

Through this grant, Maldives can broaden the scope of their vaccine administration campaign and provide booster doses and conduct vaccination programs for children. Moreover, cold storage facilities can be developed using the money, easing storage of vaccines.

A solar-powered central storage facility is set to be established in Hulhumale using the grant money. The storage facility will have the capacity to store various vaccines, medical equipment and laboratory essentials in an eco-friendly and sustainable way. Furthermore, the grant money will be utilized to ease the delivery of vaccines across the country, by designating 7 launches, 2 refrigerated lorries and 2 vans for the service.

Minister of Finance, Ibrahim Ameer is currently on an official trip to attend the South Asia Finance Ministers Retreat held at the sidelines of Asian Development Bank Annual Meetings 2022.
