President Solih Inaugurates New Powerhouse In HA. Utheemu

Yesterday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the newly developed powerhouse and office building on Utheemu island in Haa Alifu Atoll during his official visit to the island to mark the ‘National Day’ of Maldives. The ceremony was attended by the First Lady, Cabinet Ministers, Parliament Members and various government official and members of Utheemu Island.

While speaking on the opening ceremony, the President remarked that the establishment of the powerhouse will resolve the electricity problems hindering the island for a long time. In this regard, the President looked back to how the electricity service was provided with a 5 kilo-watt generator in the past however, recently have been upgraded to a 1 mega-watt capacity generator.

In his speech, the President acknowledged the diligent effort of FENAKA Corporation and stated that the administration has faith in the company and its employees. He further added that FENAKA makes informed decisions to accommodate citizens most essential needs.

President Solih also highlighted the tireless work done by other companies to finish different developmental projects in the uncertain times of the Covid-19 pandemic. He followed this comment by sharing updates about ongoing projects and future initiatives targeted at the island of Utheemu. The President emphasized on the historical importance of the island and further said that they RTL ferry network has eased transport to the island of a national hero.

Following the ceremony, the President toured the new powerhouse and office building and inquired about the operations. The new powerhouse is equipped with the capacity to generate 1 megawatt of electricity and is designed to hold 4 gensets each of 600 kilowatts.
