To mark International Day of Sign Languages, Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced that they will supporting the development of a sign language dictionary. The dictionary will be compiled and assembled by the Maldives Deaf Association in a first time attempt in the Maldives. Through the establishment of a sign language dictionary, the association is expanding its work in empowering and advocating for the rights of deaf community in the Maldives.
In addition to the assistance provided to develop the dictionary, BML also conducted a sign language training session for its staff by collaborating with the Deaf Association. The purpose of the training sessions is to better equip the staff to cater for inclusive and accessible services for all BML customers, including people with disabilities.
The bank has held similar training sessions in the past as well. In the pandemic year of 2020, BML initiated sign language training sessions for its staff by joining with the Deaf Association.
