Mamen Inter-School Cycling Championship 2022 Deemed As The First Full Solar-Powered Event In The Maldives

On Saturday, the third edition of Mamen Inter-School Cycling Championship 2022 concluded with the event being a great success. Held from the 16-17th of September 2022 at the Hulhumale’ Phase 2 cycling track, the championship is the first 100% solar powered event in the Maldives.

This year’s tournament hosted an astonishing number of 1000 cyclists from 32 different schools. During the 1K Fun Ride alone, 450 youngsters cycled took part and was awarded medals by the esteemed chief guest, Sports Veteran Hon. Ibrahim Ismail. He was joined by Dhiraagu Brand Ambassador, Hassan Saaid and other prominent members from Dhiraagu and Bike Maldives.

With the use of clean energy generated by portable power stations, the entire tournament was made green with solar power. Even though Dhiraagu and Bike Maldives organized the event, many partners contributed to its success. This includes HDC, Maldives Police Services, MTCC Plc, Aerosalts, Chopart Maldives and ILAA Maldives.

Volunteers from the Girl Guides Association of the Maldives helped out while First Aid Services were provided by volunteers from Maldivian Red Crescent, Hulhumale’ Hospital and MNU School of Nursing. In addition to this, media coverage for the event was brought by Adhadhu.

A special awarding ceremony in honour of the winners will be conducted later this week. Three male and three female winners will be presented with award from each category and three winning teams will be selected from the Mixed Team Pursuit too. The most coveted title of “Champion School” will also be announced at the ceremony.
