Tree Top Hospital Succeeds In Removing A Large Fibroid Via A Minimally Invasive Procedure

 
Yesterday, Tree Top Hospital announced that they have removed a fibroid of size 12x10x10 cm in a laparoscopic myomectomy procedure. This minimally invasive procedure was carried out for the first time in the Maldives to remove a fibroid so large.

Laparoscopic Myomectomy is used to remove uterine fibroids while allowing the uterus to remain intact. Even though, it is a minimally invasive surgery, a great amount of precision and accuracy is needed to prevent heavy bleeding and not disrupt the uterus during the procedure.

The large fibroid was removed with the expert supervision and execution of TTH’s medical consultants. Dr. Mahmoud Aboubakur, Consultant Obstetrics & Gynecology led the surgery and he was assisted by Dr. Rishi Kant, Consultant General Surgery and Dr. Preethy Solomon, Consultant Obstetrics & Gynecology. In addition to this, a skilled team of OT nurses and Consultant of Anaesthesia, Dr. Aminath Fiuna heavily contributed to the surgery to make it successful.

While speaking about the surgery, Dr. Mahmoud Aboubakur said that 4 minuscule holes, each 5-10mm repairs of the uterus was conducted in two-layers without any complication.
Post-surgery, Emilie Elegante, the patient, thanked Dr. Mahmoud and team for the delicate surgery and remarked that she is recovering well, courtesy of the care she was provided from day 1.

With a career spanning 12 years, Dr. Mahmoud’s interest lie in infertility management IUI & IVF Hysteroscopy & advanced Laparoscopic procedures. He completed his MBBS from Mansoura University in Egypt before pursuing his Master’s Degree in Obstetrics and Gyecology & Reproduction medicine and infertility from the same university.
