Ministry Of Finance Publishes Green Fund Report For July

The monthly green fund report has been issued for the July with a total of MVR 61,499,837 accumulated to the Green Fund. The contributions were made in the form of green tax from resorts, hotels, guesthouses as well as liveaboard vessels. The biggest share of the green tax came from resorts with an astonishing MVR 58,367,523.17 collected as tax.

July also saw the use of the Green Fund to finance various projects targeted at different environmental endeavours. This includes coastal protection projects, establishment of water and sewerage systems, installation of water supply systems and many more. A sum of 38 projects were financed from the fund during the month resulting in a total expenditure of MVR 23,961,411.

Currently, the Green Fund contains MVR 883 million after all the projects were accounted for. Introduced under the Tourism Act in 2016, the Green Fan has paved way for combating different environmental challenges in the country through the tax income incurred from tourists.
