The 4th Edition Of The Fanoalla Dharubaaru Has Commenced in L.Gan

The 4th Fanoalla Dharubaaru has begun yesterday in Gan of Laamu Atoll. The forum is organized by the Local Government Authority(LGA) of the Maldives in close collaborations with international parties such as USAID and the International Republican Institute (IRI). The objective of the forum is to provide a platform to raise issues and exchange ideas in an effort to carry forward the decentralization of the government.

The forum will see the attendance of prominent figures involved in decentralization including presidents of local councils and Women Development Committees (WDC) as well as government officials and parliamentarians. Key note speakers of the forum include the Chief Executive Officer of LGA, Afshan Latheef, Director General of LGA, Shammoon Adam and USAID Programme Coordinator to Maldives, Hillery Midkiff.

The forum paves way for discussing the Government’s five-year strategic plan and provides potential solutions for barriers hindering the effective implementation of the eight amendment of the Decentralization Act. The most recent revision proposed to the decentralization act is to hold by-elections for the WDCs.
