Ameenee Magu Redevelopment Project Has Begun In Male’ City

Yesterday, reconstruction efforts of one of the biggest and most prominent roads of the capital city Male’- Ameenee Magu has commenced at a ceremony held to mark the historical moment. The project was initiated by former Mayor of Male City, Maizan Ali Manik.

The groundbreaking ceremony was inaugurated by 5 member, namely former Mayor of Male’City Maizan Ali Manik, Managing Director of RDC, Moosa Ali Manik, State Minister of Planning Ministry, Akram Kamaludeen, Male City Mayor, Dr. Mohamed Muiz and Parliament Member of Henveiru Dhekunu, Hussain Shaheem.

The Ameenee Magu of Male’ is an important road of the city connecting all neighbourhoods as it spans the length of the island. Due to its prime location in the city, many schools, offices and businesses are located on the road, facilitating a broad range of services to the general public.

Although it is ranked among one of the largest roads in the capital, Ameenee Magu is prone to flooding during rainy monsoons with water lodgings in the road sometimes reaching a foot above surface. Moreover, the bricks on the road are very uneven posing many difficulties to vehicles using the road.

To bring an end to these issues, the government of the Maldives handed the project to Road Development Corporation (RDC) on July 3rd of 2022 and implementation began as of yesterday. The scope of the project includes tar surfacing of the 1.79 km long road and the installment of dewatering system and cable junctions.

To make the road accessible to people with disabilities, Ameenee Magu will feature a Braille block for vision-impaired people and easy movement for wheelchair transport. Furthermore, bus stops, streetlights and street signs will also be put up as part of the project.

With a project value of MVR 84 Million, the road redevelopment is set to be completed in 7 months. Starting from Henveiru, the project is divided into 13 segments and hopes to finish within the allocated timeline.
