RTL Ferry Network Connects Three Northernmost Atolls Of The Maldives

Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry services has commenced in Shaviyani Atoll, paving way for an integrated high-speed ferry service network connecting all three northernmost atolls of the country. The RTL services are implemented by the Government of Maldives in an effort to ease transportation between islands and destinations through bus and ferry services.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has established RTL ferry services in zone 1 of the National Public Ferry Network. This comprises of 30 inhabited islands of Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Shaviyani Atoll. Ferry services has already commenced in the two former atolls earlier in the year on June 12th and July 3rd. In Shaviyani, the services began yesterday on August 30th.

Yesterday, the service was initiated with four ferries with a total combined capacity of 50 passengers at a time. All ferries used in the network are equipped with air conditioning and on-board restrooms along with designated areas for stretchers and wheelchairs making the service accessible as well.

During the first week of inception, passengers can enjoy travelling free-of-charge along the seven routes of the ferry but later on can purchase tickets using a mobile application of MTCC.

The National Public Ferry Network is one of the larges projects introduced during this administration with the aim of providing affordable and efficient passenger and cargo services to all islands across the country by the end of 2023. Forming part of the Decentralisation Act implemented by the Government of Maldives, the Ferry Network strives to deliver inclusive regional development via connecting people and services.
