AgroNat Prepares To Lease Farming Plots In The Coming Three Months

Agro National Corporation Private Limited (AgroNat) has announced that it will be leasing farming plots to farmers in the upcoming three months of this year. The farming plots will be allocated from one of the islands the company is focused in. Islands currently allocated for the AgroNat include Mulidhoo in Haa Alif Atoll and Gaadhoo in Laamu Atoll handed over by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture in May 2021.

AgroNat was founded by the Government of Maldives in an effort to better market agricultural produce from local farms, paving way for an increased income for farmers. Through this aim, the corporation has signed contracts with farmers to produce various types of fruits and vegetables. AgroNat aids in the process by the provision of technical and financial assistance to local husbandman as well as in the marketing of their produce.

During the star-up package, AgroNat has delivered items worth over USD 193,000 to farmer so far. They have even conducted visits to 68 islands to create wider awareness about their contract farming project. Through these efforts, there are now over 2000 farmers registered with the corporation and 1000 farmers signed with the company, out of which 300 individuals are currently growing crops in fields.

AgroNat is now developing Gaadhoo island to commence the leasing of farming plots. Equipped with the latest agricultural technologies, AgroNat will be purchasing all the produce grown on the island.
