Yesterday, 41 participants from the first batch of the Instructor Development Course (IDC) received accreditation from Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). The IDC was conducted as part of Ministry of Economic Development’s Upskilling and Training Program.
PADI certificates were awarded to participants who completed their course at dive centers of Diver’s Lodge, Ocean Junkies, Ocean Warriors, Dive Desk and Dive Club.
The certificates were presented by the chief guest of the ceremony, Minister of Economic Development, Honourable Fayyaz Ismail. The awarding ceremony was also attended by PADI’s Regional Manager Matt Wenger as well as representatives from different dive centers.
The Upskilling and Training Program strives to develop the skills of unemployed and self-employed individuals, paving way for them to pursue professional careers and job opportunities. The Program is implemented by the initiative of Ministry of Economic Development.
Under this Program, more than 150 students are currently enrolled in dive master and instructor development courses. Other trainings facilitated under this program include Accounting, ICT and various apprenticeships which boast a total student body of more than 700 enrolled in the trainings. These courses and trainings are 100% sponsored by the Government of Maldives with a generous monthly stipend of MVR5000 provided to all students.
