Yesterday, Western Union recommenced their money transfer services after a brief suspension from Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). The suspension was later nullified by the Authority paving way for services to resume again.
On August 8th, the money transfer services of Western Union were halted due to MMA withholding the license granted to Island Financial Service Private Limited to provide remittance services. Island Financial Services is the local agent in Maldives for Western Union. Following the suspension, Island Financial Services made a statement that the license was retained in order to bring immediate changes to the Western Union’s local application.
The suspension was revoked on August 18th by MMA and since then, Island Financial Services has continued their money transfer services conducted in Western Union.
