HDC Signs Land Sale Agreement With Two Other Ministries To Develop A Safe Home In Hulhumale’

On Thursday, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has signed a land sale agreement in collaboration with Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services and Ministry of Finance to pave for the development of a safe home in Hulhumale’.

At the signing ceremony held on Thursday, the agreement was signed on behalf of HDC by Managing Director of HDC, Mr. Suhail Ahmed. The Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services, Honourable Aishath Mohamed Didi represented her ministry during the signing. Minister of Finance, Honourable Ibrahim Ameen signed on behalf of Ministry of Finance.

The safe home is designated for victims of domestic violence and aims to provide a safe environment for the victims. Funded by the Asian Development Bank, the “Amaan Hiya” is established under the Domestic Violence Prevention Act to provide immediate protection to victims.

While speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Gender, Family & Social Services, Aishath Mohamed Didi stated that through this project they hope to bring an end to domestic violence based on a selected gender. She also remarked that the home will not only provide protection but other essential support will be facilitated such as psychosocial support and legal assistance. In this regard, she further commented that two more safe homes will be developed in Raa Atoll and Addu City as well.

The Managing Director of HDC, Mr. Suhail Ahmed said that this is an ideal time to build a safe home in Hulhumale’ with the current shift of populations to Hulhumale’ growing. He added that the development of such a service will bring great ease to the area.
